Grupo Xcaret: Pioneering Sustainable Tourism in Mexico

For over 30 years, Grupo Xcaret has stood at the forefront of sustainable tourism in Mexico. Nestled in the heart of the Riviera Maya, this visionary brand is redefining the way we travel.

As conscious travel continues to gain traction, more travelers are making ethical and eco-friendly decisions when booking accommodations. Grupo Xcaret has long anticipated this shift. Their commitment to sustainable travel is reflected in every aspect of their operations.

Sustainability at the Core: The Xustainability Model

Also, inspired by the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Grupo Xcaret launched its Xustainability Model—a comprehensive framework focused on three key pillars: people, planet, and prosperity. This model ensures a balanced approach to environmental care, social responsibility, and economic benefit for local communities.

Each of their three all-inclusive resorts—Hotel Xcaret MéxicoHotel Xcaret Arte, and La Casa de la Playa—embraces this model with eco-integrated architecture that honors the surrounding jungle and Caribbean coastline. These properties are designed using locally sourced materials and natural lighting, minimizing their environmental footprint while providing an unforgettable guest experience.

Planet-Friendly Practices

Grupo Xcaret’s environmental efforts are wide-ranging and impactful. The group utilizes 12 advanced water treatment facilities, reusing over 548,000 cubic meters of water annually. Their properties are built to harness natural light and airflow, with a full migration to clean energy on the horizon. In terms of waste management, seven specialized centers ensure that over 456 tons of waste are properly sorted, recycled, and composted.

Their reforestation program is equally impressive. In 2022 alone, over 60,000 native plants and trees were planted, and more than 94,000 plants were reproduced in on-site nurseries for ecological restoration projects.

Conservation of Flora and Fauna

Grupo Xcaret is deeply committed to protecting wildlife. The Sea Turtle Conservation Program has successfully released over 15 million hatchlings back into the ocean. Coral reef restoration, macaw reintroduction, and a dedicated Wildlife Hospital underscore their holistic approach to biodiversity conservation.

Supporting Mexican Culture and Communities

Grupo Xcaret also serves as a platform for promoting Mexican craftsmanship. From handmade hammocks by Yucatán families to artisan-made Talavera from Puebla, nearly every detail of the hotels supports local artisans. Their Alebrijes Xelfies program encourages guests to celebrate Mexican folklore through interactive, selfie-ready art installations.

A Model for Sustainable Luxury

Travelers who stay at Xcaret’s hotels not only enjoy luxurious amenities—including award-winning cuisine, Muluk Spa, and the All-Fun Inclusive® program with unlimited access to parks—but also support a company dedicated to a greener, more equitable world.

Whether you’re exploring cenotes, savoring dishes by Michelin-starred chefs, or supporting community artisans, staying at a Grupo Xcaret hotel ensures your vacation makes a meaningful impact.
